Kevin - Have you considered buying some marine-grade, non-yellowing varnish at your local hardware store, a thin artist's paintbrush and then carefully layering 3-4 thin coats onto the medallion? While I have not tried this technique on a Saab badge, I have had pretty good luck with it on other non-wood materials - such as metal - that get a lot of hard exposure to the elements. Might be worth a go if you have the time ;-)
