I am in another crossroads of life so I seek your wisdom and knowledge to help me navigate.
Tomorrow Mitchell's SAAB of Simsbury Connecticut is having a SAAB Event Day that equates to "Get those old SAAB owners to buy new SAABs". I have a 2 to 2:45 appointment to have my 1992 9000S run through a complete checkout while I am left in the hands of their able body sales assistants.
My issue is I used to really love my 2002 Aero but I have not been near the car for months, I'd say close to a year, now that my wife has adopted it as her daily driver. I took a few M3s, convertible and a sedan, out for test drives but too small. I took out the Youareg and was very impressed with the build and feel. I took out several Audi Allroads, Standard and automatic, but safety and maintenance are issues in my mind. My safety issues are based on the recent death of a 17 year old Simsbury High Schooler who died driving 22 to 32 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour zone. I went for a marathon Infinity Test drive that basically went through their fleet of cars but nothing really excited me. I took out a Mazda Wankle (SP?) RX and could not get over the fact that the car red lines at 9000 or something ridicules to me. Nice car, small, but the power band starts in the 3 to 5 thousand RPMs range. Corners really well, much better than the salesman as he had a hard time staying in his seat.
So here are options I am considering;
1) Nothing. Thank them for the report that highlights the items I need to address now and in the near future on my 1992 9000S. By the way, it is still a fun drive with great pick up but too much body roll. I add that the thing still looks brand new but after so many years driving the same car the desire to drive it wanes.
2) Chat up the potential to buy the leftover '03 9-3, in '04 it is the Aero, that they marked down to $30K (Has 92 miles on it.)
3) Chat up the potential to buy an '04 9-5 Aero Wagon as it has the capacity and accessibility to replace the '92 9000S hatch back.
4) Get a Touareg.
What is your sage guidance?
