I think folks over on BITOG have mentioned that the Amsoil viscosities tend to run on the heavy end of their ranges (Dick In Falls Church ... ??). If so, your mpg increase might be related to this, as Dean pointed out over a year ago that switching from M1 10W-30 to M1 0W-40 actually gave him an mpg increase as well. (This would be consistant with the benefits of more durable oil films providing better lubrication.)

I've also heard that the 4-ball test is for greases, so I don't know why Amsoil would choose this test for brand comparisons. I do know that the oil you're using now is Dick's favorite, & he's been using Amsoil in a variety of engines (including a bunch of different turbos) for decades. As long as you're using a premium full syn, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
