I'm reminded of a picture of a recall from my Saturn days when 1993 Saturns had a "campaign", not a recall, for the fuseable link problem that caused a few fires.
If you had a freeway full of Saturns there would be a Saturn fire every 500 ft or so. When Pontiac recalled Fieros for their fire problem, if there had been a freeway full of Fieros there would have been a fire in every other row.
It's nice that we can beat this DIC issue to death on the BB's, but even allowing for that, Saabs are indeed reliable overall as shown by numerous consumer folks who measure that sort of stuff.
Back to another Saturn example. During my 8+ years at Saturn we had lots of Saturns get towed in with, coil failure, alternator failure, fuel pump failure. I don't hear about alternator or fuel pump problems with Saabs. And IMO the magnitude of coil failures of Saturns was much greater than with Saab and the DIC. With a Saturn it was when, not if the coils and wires would go bad.
How many cars have only 1 potential driveability issue that can be cured by carrying a spare in the trunk? In sum the, fuel system, computer systems, electrical systems on other brand's reliability issues make the prospect of a small percentage of DIC failures almost welcome by comparison.
