I bought my 2000 2.3 lpt wagon used at 52k; replaced DIC at 58k mi. after months of on-again, off-again check engine lights. Finally managed to get car to mechanic (independent that I respect) when light was on. Computer readout said DI failing. Mechanic suggested I order new one online ($319 from Europarts--cheaper than he could supply me) and replace plugs at same time. Did so. Mileage immediately improved by 3 or so mpg.
My driving is mostly city--real city, Brooklyn (3or so blocks between traffic light, at best)--with the odd 500 or so mile highway trip evey few months.
Car ran fine for 5 months during engine light on/off period. Never a stall, started every morning in the winter. Change oil every 3-4,000 miles. Final episode occured during first warm weather of spring.
Now carry old DIC as spare.
P.S. Do not regret purchasing this car. Love it. Best value for money.
