Lots of different opinions on this one

At hte risk of starting a "brake" jihad, my experience with the same vehicle/year/pads is that the Saab rotors just might not be up to the job. I am relatively conservative driver and routinely get between 80-100K out of a set of front pads. I just replaced the front rotors and EBC pads on my 2002 aero due to brake vibrations as well, and the new rotors cured the problem. The technician who examined your rotors should be using a dial gauge to measure run out,and making his decision on the problem based on that reading, not any cursory" they look fine" type of judgement. There is a great article floating arond on this board by Carroll Smith ( of Shelby Racing fame) written for Stoptech, that talks of buildup of a foreign substance called cementite,on the surface of the rotors, that might contribute to the sensation that most of us describe as vibration from the brakes. My mechanic replaced my rotors due to a measurable run out on the rotors, so in at least this case, cementite,( or whatever it might be) was not the cause of the vibration. My EBC pads wre about half worn down at 55K miles, so that told me that my driving habits and braking forces were probably about right. As manufacturers try to shave costs and weight ,heavy cast iron brake rotors have a bullseye on them as expensive to manufacture, ship, etc. In addition, many others have writen here of the short life time of newer Saab OEM rotors, that seems to also be asociated with the harshness of the OEM pads they have been using. Conclusion? I think you( and I) should expect 50-70K miles maximum from rotors on this car before the vibrations make it a PIA to drive.
