or items that need servicing for a '01 9-5 between 50k-100k miles (I guess not easy cuz it's still a 3-yr old car), what level of servicing they may require, and what your indie or dealer would have charged to do all that work.
I would suspect even if you passed on the $2000 ext. warranty, at the end of next 4 years/50k miles you prolly would have doled out fairly close to $2K on the conservative side, or even up to $4K on the generous side.
This is one of those "individual results may vary" situation. You need to review how reliable/unreliable your car has been up to now and how much $ you would have spent on those repairs if they weren't covered by warranty. Then extrapolate through the next 4 years where your car is getting older with more miles, and the potential for same problems or new problems to surface. Also your driving habits, local environment etc etc can influence your car's performance/reliability. You also mentioned buying a house next year. With the lending rates so low as is, I'd say you're better off buying the ext. warranty AND you'd still be able to make a meaningful down payment and get a good mortgage plan.
This assuming the rest of your financial situation is relatively secure, gas doesn't hit $5 a gallon etc ....... ;-)
Good luck
