I couldn't quite remember which accessory was at the top left of the belt routing, was fairly confident it was the waterpump - but I was wrong. You are correct, the only component affected by the short belt option will be the power steering pump.
The short belt option only reduces the angle of contact from 180 degrees to 135 degrees (eye-balling it on a 9-5 belt routing diagram) which means only a 13% reduction in belt power capacity, not the 30% I mentioned yesterday.
Since I have never heard any belt squeal from my 9-5 when doing full-lock parking lot manuevers (unlike most other cars), and since maximum power is demanded by the PS pump at slow speeds not at maxumum engine power speeds, I can't envision this short belt option causing any long term problems. I don't even see it causing reduced belt life or belt slippage.
Thanks again for your experimental fitting of other belts, and your posting of the shortened belt part number.
