It is super important to have the right plugs in these cars, as the NGK plugs are an integral part of the ignition system. The trionic computer 'reads' the spark back from the plug to determine all sorts of parameters. Using the wrong plug (IOW, anything not specified specifically for the car by Saab) will really screw up the performance and running of the car.

(Wish I had had a Dad like you... my Pop told me that if I wanted a car for college, I had better get a good summer job 'cause he wasn't going to buy anything for me. That summer, I traded a surf casting rod and reel for a Saab 96 in desperate shape, rebuilt it, and drove it for many years. And the Saab saga has continued every since...)
