It's always "extreme use" in a turbo!

You can't "control" how abused your oil will get, simply because you don't have an on/off switch for your turbo. If you're accelerating, you're beating up the oil 'cuz that's when the turbo's going. (In other words, "always!")
My opinion is the opposite of yours: your engine's MUCH better off with 10k mi changes using Mobil 1 or Amsoil than it EVER will be with 3k mi changes on GTX. It's not the oil's fault, it's the turbo's. At +400°F & +100k rpms, turbos are the definition of the oil-abuse term "High Temperature/High Shear." For our engines, syn oils will ALWAYS be in better condition after 10k mi of use than dino oils will after only 3k mi of use. Better lubrication, better cooling, better viscosity retention, better additives, less oxidation, less degradation, less breakdown residue.
My guidelines for oil-abusing Saab turbo engines holding ~4L of oil: dino oil for no more than 3k mi, syn blend for 5k mi max, & full syn for 10k mi. If you've got the GM Oil Life Monitor, fill up with an approved full syn & rely on the monitor. If all you've got is the service "reminder" light, go by the guidelines.
