I got a great deal on a USED 1999 9-5 three years ago. The reason being it had blown a piston at 40K. So - they were selling it with a used 2.3 4 Cyl replacement engine at clearance price - It's been a CHAMP still is with 145K on it.
BTW - I agree with everyone else - Skip the 6 - almost impossible and everyone will tell you there are MORE maintenance issues.
Go for the replacement 4 - it's not a bad price - if the car is paid for.
I've put 95K on my car since then, and only had to replace the DI Cassette (Go figure)
It sounds like you like your car, repairing a good car is always better than a new payment. I'll probably curse myself by saying I'd replace it again if I had to, but I would.
