I'd also vote for fixing it, even if to sell it. But...forgive me for reading between the lines...you seem to be agreeable to using the blown engine as an excuse for an upgrade ;)
The least painful route is to get it fixed where it sits, then add a chip and some suspension upgrades (bars + spring/strut set). That's at least another $2k (you're into 'what the car is worth' territory) but that car will feel more like an earlier Aero...in fact maybe handle better with the the aftermarket suspension bits.
Check out genuinesaab.com for chips, sway (anti-roll) bars, etc.
