Did you use new copper washer or the old Saab washers? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: new fuel filter = hard starting, JG, Tue, 20 Jul 2004 11:36:08 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We have seen many cases where people are having problems with starting and bad running right after fuel filter has been replaced. Many times it has been cured by replacing fuel pressure regulator.
It would be interesting to know how many of the problem cars had the old (or even new) Saab washers installed on the fuel filter/banjo bolts?
If you look closely on the old washer, the inner rubber seal is torn to pieces every time when opening up the banjo bolt. If that washer is reused, the chances of having rubber pieces traveling and getting stuck in pressure regulator or injector is quite big.
I don't even care for putting new Saab washers on there of the same reason but use old fashioned copper washers instead.
I have never had a pressure regulator fail shortly after replacing the fuel filter, and I have replaced many filters.
