varies from dealership to dealership Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: CPO experience agreees with what you have seen, awg, Mon, 16 Aug 2004 12:15:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been to five dealerships. In two, the cars were ragged, with torn bumper skins, missing parts (except for those tossed into the glove compartment) and dirty upholstery. One had the blue smoker car. Two had reasonably decent cars - yes, they had minor paint chips and the like, but at least somebody had sprung for a quick detailing, and all parts were accounted for. The last dealership had cars that were nothing but pristine. All parts were accounted for, the cars were clean and vacuumed. Yes, there were nicks in the paint and a few scratches, but they looked good.
It's always easier to sell a car that looks good with bad mechanicals than a car that looks ragged, no matter how the mechanicals are. I would figure that a dealership would spend the $50-100 for a good detailing, and more importantly, fix the very obvious things wrong.
Many of the '01 wagons I saw were missing the rear folding cargo cover. That lists for abut $400. At the dealers where the cars were ragged, they said that maybe they could do something, which sounded like paying dealer cost for the missing parts. From the better dealerships, they promised the car would be complete. At at the best one, the covers were in place.
