premium is recommended because the cars are designed for premium gas. simple as that. and as stated before they dont lose power due to funky detonation, they lose power because the ecu MAKES it lose power by retarding everything. you shoudlnt have a single problem running 87, but you will lose some power no matter what. if you can give up 20-30hp for the fuel cost savings then go ahead and do it, if you want performance some times, fill up with premium. with a 20cent diff here in ohio, its $3.60 extra per fill up, about 5 bucks a week, 20 a month, 240 dollars a year in gas. over 5 years life that woudl be 1200 bucks.
then again, saab sure didnt give u that performance potential for free so i guess some would u should pay extra to get ur moneys worth.. but remember that its sunk cost. do whatever makes the most financial sense at this time, not with regards to what u paid in the past.
