The ECU software in Canada and the US is different. Unless you really want to have the shift light working for a 5spd application... but then with a KM only instrument cluster, there is no shift light to activate.
I believe that the software on a PC to load software onto a Tech-II will not allow one to over ride constraints that allow for loading software for different markets and software for models different from the engine codes in the VIN etc. The dealer in MA may have had to load sofware for the Canadian market code, unless US and CDN vehicles are considered the same market code as far as the Tech-II and loader systems are concerned.
So software load numbers may vary.
DI: with that age and miles, DI problems would not be a surprise.
