A base '01 wagon (185 hp) is a very nice car. You won't drag race Vipers, but it has, in my opinion, enough power to safely highway merge and make the twisties fun. The '00 and earlier had 170 hp - still pretty decent, but a hair slower. Only driving one will tell. The SE is the V6, which is a nice engine. It makes a bit more growl while accelerating, but is quiet at speed. The V6 has a decent reliability record. A SE was a little more upmarket, so it'll have more options, and will probably cost a few more bucks.
The Aero is definately fast. You'll have a full complement of options, and a slightly stiffer suspension.

It all depends on what you're looking for. Only a test drive will tell if a base is fast enough for you. And try a few - these are used cars, and some are in better shape.

Under $20K AND CPO is a little hard. I've seen a few $19.9Ks in my area. Much easier to do private, but no CPO warranty. The SE, and definately the Aero will command more money. Make sure you need what that extra money will cost. Also, at least according to the manual, the SE and Aero require a higher grade of gas. Which costs more.

Again, I don't think you'll be disapointed with the performance of a Base '01.
