25K report: brake pad thickness, spark plugs (pic)

My '02 Aero sedan (MT) has about 25,000 miles on it now, and I did a couple of things today:
1) I rotated the tires, and while I had the wheels off, I measured the brake pad thickness. They were 9 mm thick all around. No complaints here; new front brake pads are 14 mm. Plenty of life left.
2) I've noticed lately that the engine was a little bit rough at idle, and a little bit hesitant at low rpm (eg, 50 mph in 5th gear), so I took the plugs out for a look.
They're the original double-platinum NGK PFR 6H-10 plugs, and the gap is still about the same, 0.035 inch. They don't look bad (see pic below) but after 2 years I suspected they were getting tired.
My guess is that the very high power SAAB direct ignition places great demands on the plugs... other cars go 100K on platinums, while SAAB says 30K-40K for platinum.
I had some new NGK copper plugs (BCPR6ES-11) on hand and installed them, and the engine runs great again! They're only $2 each whereas the double-platinums are $8 each. The expensive plugs cost 4X more but last only 2.5X longer (in my car at least). From now on, I'll be sticking with the copper plugs and changing them yearly.
There have been earlier posts that the copper plugs are the unofficial "fix" for a cold-idle stumble (this worked for TG) and the aftermarket tuners seem to prefer the copper plugs as well.
Happy SAABing,
Jason
