Unless SAAB/GM is providing an aux-in which I strongly doubt, the XM offering is FM modulated.
Like all FM modulators, there is a chance of local FM station static bleeding through on the same FM frequency. Changing frequencies didn't help either.
I found this problem here in NYC, Long Island, New Jersey and all along the I-95 to Rhode Island - muddied sound through background static.
The only solutions are a cassette adapter, or my solution, a hard wired FM adapter. Both provide excellent results and the difference in reception was profound, and the results through the Premium sound system are fantastic.
As to the question of whether steering wheel controls work, the answer is yes, but only volume controls, changing channels on the sat radio will require the remote or directly through the sat radio itself.
I've got Sirius, others here have XM, it's strictly a matter of personal choice, both are superb services, once you subscribe, you will not go back to normal FM unless of course you love listening to ads.
