Transmission gear oil change at 24k miles, Worth it?

I'm planning on having the transmission fluid changed during my next service visit for my 02 9-5 aero.
I've read reports though that the fluid in the manual gearbox is designed to last the life of the car in Saabs. None of the service intervals mention anything about changing it either.
But..just from personal experience with my last vehicle (not a saab), I noticed during the first fluid change at 15k, the oil was very dark and sumpy looking compared to what new fluid would of looked like. Also the magnetic drain plug was coated with metal shavings. But after changing the fluid in that car and cleaning the plug, I noticed my next change at 40k resulted in a drain plug that had hardly any metal shavings on it and the fluid looked almost as good as new. That gear box always shifted great since new and I never had any problems with it up until 45k miles when I finally I got rid of the car for the Aero.
Just looking for some advice on whether I should bother having this done?
This is my first Saab and I'm learning as I go here. I do plan on keeping this car for well over 200k miles if everything works out well.
I would think any new gearbox, would naturally wear initially the most to get broken in properly and changing the fluid should be a good practice.
But am I over doing it in this case?
Thanks,
-Rob
