I would take a good look at CPO, but if you are looking at private party cars at a super prices then there may be a significant gap between those prices and a dealer's CPO price. At some point, maybe around $4000, the CPO warranty begins to look uneconomical. Below that level it is good value IMHO, as over the next several years and 50,000 miles it is inconceivable that you will not confront at least one, and probably several, four-figure problems such as turbo, ACC or transmission.
I am not as concerned about the DI issue as some here are. DIs have been around since at least 1991 and the complaints have only become prominent recently; maybe there was a bad production batch, but I doubt that there is an issue of the technology not being sufficiently well understood by SAAB engineers. And remember, nobody comes on this board to post a notice that they have NOT had a DI problem. (I have not.) If you are really concerned, then you might analyze the DI-related posts and see if the issue is confined to the four-cylinder cars or if it affects the V-6s as well.
Nothing in the paragraph above should be considered to be a warranty! Who knows, it is possible that you may have a catastrophic DI failure your first day out. I doubt it but I could be wrong.
