The dealer is performing the maintenance that saab specifies and will pay for. If you want anything else done, or upgrades to the specified oil then they will happily do it if you pay. if they dont do something specified in the book, eg the cabin filter replacement then you have a legitimate complaint - the service book is your guide&de facto contract.

What is interesting is how the maintenance need has changed as the 'free' servicing came in following Audi's 'Advantage' programme that Saab, BMW etc all reluctantly responded to. Now that maintenance for 3/36 is included, more and more stuff is being put off until 40K, such as the coolant flush or the spark plugs. I also think its ludicrous to have 10k intervals on semi-synthetic oil.

I recently did the 30k 9-5 aero sevice on my 2001, (on my own dime, as the 3 years had long gone before 30k rolled around - which is another gripe - why should a low mileage user miss out on the 'free' service they prepaid for, there should be a time interval alternative - thats how audi did it, and how saab does it in other contries without the prepayment, hence the annoying Time For Service msg on the SID once a year) and the spark plugs were really worn out, I couldnt imagine them going another 10k.

You did the right thing getting the Mobil 1 installed, although i would have done it later treating the dealers semi-syn as flushing oil. I recommed getting the new plugs ($43 from eEuroparts) now, rather than at 40k, but you have to pay either way.
