That's the scary part about off-lease cars. No way of knowing what happened during their early, formative years. Infrequent oil changes at 15K don't kill the engine right away - they show up at 50K.
It won't hurt to ask Saab for help, but I would doubt it. I'm the third owner of a '97 9000. The car was bought off-lease by the second owner at 45K, and the engine sludged up and died at 55K. The second owner did 5K mile oil changes, which should be fine, but chances are the first owner (leasee) did very infrequent oil changes. Saab kicked in $1K towards the new engine. But the second owner was still hit with $4.5K. You're 30K away from the lease, so Saab would have less of a reason to kick any money in.
As Anders says, how often did you do oil changes? If you did them pretty frequently, (5K or less), you might have more sway with Saab than if you did them at 10K.
If you can find a used engine, it could be a good approach. However, treat a used engine just like a used car - don't buy it unless you know the service history of the car. The last thing you want to do is buy another engine that has seen 10K oil changes.
