Re: question for Anders on Sludge removal Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: question for Anders on Sludge removal, Frank ![]() |
My feeling is that the only thing an engine flush does is to take your money.
What the "real" machines do is to push solvent backwards through the engine oiling system and out through the drain hole BUT! Most of the sludge clings to the timing cover sides, valve cover top and top of camshaft caps, and also walls of oil pan.
Yes, it is a slight chance that the machine would push solvent fast enough backwards through the oil pump gear and into the oil pickup screen to dislodge some particles but it won't go in there like a dishwasher machine and swirl the solvent around over the big open areas where the real caking have happened.
If it does loosen up "some" of the sludge than that will fall down and get sucked up and clog the screen over and over again.
On the other hand, if the car is maintained it doesn't need the flush at all.
So, until they come out with a machine where you stick several flexible hoses in here and there through the engine and when you you hit go, the hoses starts snaking and snapping back and forth (like a cut off air hose) spraying some really potent solvent through the whole engine, I don't beleive in it.
