My experience is that using a engine treatment like Risoline every 60K miles or so may help. I've done that to all my Saabs, using regular 10W30 motor oil changed every 6K miles, with the addition of Risoline every 60K.

Before doing the 60K mile oil change, I put a quart in, then drive a few days (200 miles or so) to let it work up to temperature and work on the gunk, then drain the oil and put in fresh oil. The oil is pretty dark and funky, so it seems like it is working. This is a solvent, so it is not breaking off chunks of goo... it is dissolving them.

Currently, my 9-5 has 112K miles on it and is running well with the original turbo. My previous 9000 had 160K on it before being sold, with the original engine and turbo, as did my 900 before that, with 280K miles on the odometer.

I can't say definitively that the engine flush has anything at all to do with the longevity, and if you are doing regular oil changes, I doubt if you'll have any problems. It is when the cars are neglected that problems occur.
