I pd approx $550 for idler pulleys & serpentine 12/2002 for a total bill of $600 with new plugs and oil change it was due for. I asked about doing the water pump at the time (97Kmiles), since it was pretty much there for the labor, anyway.
Got talked out of it; as "they almost never leak". I've had a very small coolant leak for just over a year, now. It finally (w/the hot & cold weather) looks like an itermittant waterpump leak. Dealer estimate of $575 to replace water pump, now.
So I put off the cost of the pump and a bit of additional labor for 2 years. I'm hoping it will last until I feel the need to do another serpentine belt & pulley (has 132K miles, now), but wish I had sucked it up and insisted back then, as it would be done and I'd not be worrying about it. Plus it would be one less time to pull it all apart.
I'm comfortable with the very minor intermittant weeping, and keep a close eye on consumption, but it makes me less secure letting my wife take it for a long run alone. These things can change quickly!
