coincidental, but are not likely related.
As others note sludging and polymerization of oil is an issue in these engines with a fine screen. My indy has seen several of them. He recommends that anyone buying a used NG900, 9-3 or 9-5 drop the oil pan and clean out all the sludge and the screen as soon as they get the car. He's seen 9-5 engines that were toast at 50K or less.
One of the things about oil-related turbo (or engine) failure is that it really happened some time ago, when the oil wasn't being changed regularly, or the car was run low on oil. It just happened to actually die while you have the car.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. In my mind a CPO car, or one with a documented oil change history is essential with those engines.
