Well that's great but if that's necessary why doesn't Saab tell you so? When I bought my '01 I specifically asked if any measures were necessary to protect the turbo, and the dealer (an exclusively Saab dealer for over 20 years with an excellent reputation in Maine, where they actually sell some Saabs) said "no, just drive it." My turbo went at 40k. I suspect it had nothing to do with warming up or spooling down, and lots to do with the crappy PCV system.
As to the original post, turbo problems on 9-5s are SOP, about as surprising and unusual as DIC failures, and hopefully do not presage engine failure (though the jury is still out in my case).
