I totally agree with you. Saab says nothing about warm up/cool down with the newer cars whereas on the older 900s, they specifically mentioned it in the manual. Saab probably doesn't want the consumer to feel that they have to do anything special.
It is just my experience, but a warm up/cool down seems to help. My previous 900 went 280K on the original turbo, current 9-5 has 113K on original turbo, wife's Volvo turbo has 148K on original turbo.
With water cooling and forced oil lubrication, a warm up/cool down *shouldn't* be needed, and I imagine most people with Saabs never pay attention to it, but I'm looking to run 200K+ miles on my 9-5 and try to take a little more care than usual.
BTW, Volvos and VWs with turbos also suffer turbo failures... this is not Saab specific.
