wrt the rubber block at the cover next to the distributor.
aesthetics aside.
hesitation under high boost could be timing (check your can), worn/excessive gap on plugs (best guess), low octane gas, old/sensitized knock sensor or knock sensor harness/wiring, leaking wastegate, leaking hooter valve.
If you're running an SPG you probably want the 20psi 9K Bosch hooter valve or the bailey piston valve (but at $160 I'm not sure it's a good deal...I'm running the 20psi Bosch valve from SPG9 w/no problem on my 87 900T with 17-18 psi boost).
