In case you haven't searched the archives, most times someone asks this question and that they are "going to school," they ususally get an answer something like this (and before you read this you should know that I own a Saab now and have owned other Japanese and German cars in the past. And I'm currently winding up my school career):
Saabs are expensive and require a lot of maintainence. They don't require lots of maintainence becasue they are crap, but becasue the newest 900 is now 8 years old (and the one you are looking at is 17!), and things get old and wear out. Not only are things deteriorating, but parts are much more expensive compared to a small Japanese car or VW or something. On top of that, even if the car is well cared for and has had proper maintainence, they are cars which simply demand a lot of attention. They are really for people who like playing with their cars and having their heads under the hood each weekend. Durable and reliable? Yes, but they only stay that way if they have a caring owner.
That said, forget the Saab. If your in school and likely on a limited budget, go buy a Jetta or some Toyota or Honda, all the headaches you are going to have (and the huge drain on your wallet) just aren't worth it. Save your time and money for other things that you need or like to do.
