Well, just be sure you're talking apples and oranges.
Offset is one thing, backspace is another, depends on what the vendor defines it as.
I would take the stock wheel and MEASURE it. Drop a straight edge across the rim on the inside, then measure with a tape the distance from the straightedge to the mounting surface of the wheel. That's generally accepted as the backspace measurement. It needs to be the same on the new wheel you purchase if you expect to have the same degree of clearance to the suspension components as stock.
Notice I said nada about fenderwell clearance...that's another issue not connected with backspacing.
If you alter the backspacing you alter the suspension clearance at your own choice.
Offset is maybe a useless number because it is often the distance the wheel mounting surface is 'offset' from the rim centerline. So you get into yada yada yada when you increase rim width. Whereas backspace is pretty much IT for suspension component clearance.
