All season tires are a great marketing tool. Their main advantage is they don't do anything TOO badly. They also don't do anything too well, either. For my 900T, I had a nice set of performance summer tires, and a nice set of agressive snow tires. Spring was a wonderful time when the snows came off and the summer tires went on. A decent set of summer tires will make a BIG difference in your good weather handling.
I recommend you get a set of steel rims with snows. That way you can mount them up yourself with nothing more than a tire iron and a jack. It also gives you a full size spare - heck four of them!
I like the Gislaved Nordfrosts myself. Others have had very good luck with the Nokia's. (I think that's how it's spelled). It's a little late in the year, but try the mail order places like Tire Rack - they'll sell you tire and wheel packages, with the tires mounted and balanced, delivered to your door.
In my area there is a tire chain (Town Fair Tire) where I walk in with the Tire Rack ad and ask them to beat it. They don't have to beat it, but they also don't like to lose business. I can usually get about the same price, but now I have a bunch of services they provide (like free flat repair). All it takes is some haggling. And if they can't meet the price, then mail order it is.
Steel rims from any '88 - 93 900 ('94 if it's a convertable), or from ANY year 9000 will fit your car (pre '88 900 had different hole spacing). You might be able to pick up a set cheap at a junkyard.
