To say a car has tires is to say "I like food" - but there's a big difference between filet mignon and dried rat - you can eat both, but one might make for a better dining experience.
I didn't mean to imply your tires were bald. What I did want to state is that a car is no better than it's tires.
For example, you mention that your Sub had 'normal' tires - as opposed to what? Abnormal? (just kidding - please). The discussion of which tire is 'better' incites as many holy wars as the merits of synthetic oil. Even within a tire brand there is a BIG range of tires. Pirelli makes some very high performance tires, and also makes some pretty cheap ones. And some high performance tires make *lousy* snow tires.
Avon makes good tires, but again, it depends on which tires you have. I had (Pirelli) P6's on my old GTI - great dry weather tires, good name, but a nightmare in snow. My P4000's are pretty decent in snow, but I prefer running snows.
So my point - tires are the contact between the car and the road, and the car can't do any better than the tire. There is a *wide* variety of tires out there, and every manufacturer has a range of different ones, so one 'brand' isn't better than another - just different. And a great dry tire may not be a good snow tire, and a good snow tire may suck in the dry.
good luck in your search
