Click the "more from Todd" button and you will see the answers to most of the questions you are asking. Locktite 518 is as good as the anerobic sealer that you get from Saab and it is a fraction of the price. As far as resurfacing (shaving ) the head, I would bring it to a machine shop and have them check it for warpage. If it has alot of miles you can have them take the valves out and hand lap them and put new seals in for a reasonable rate. If there is bad pitting they may need to shave it as well (corrosion). Make sure that they check that it hasn't already been done by measuring the thickness. You can usually only do this procedure once before the head is aquarium furniture. IF YOU DON"T HAVE TO DON"T DO IT!
As far as taking the cams off, no you don't. Just be sure you roll them so the valves are all almost closed. This will be close to where you take it off if you follow the Bentley and put the eng. at TDC #1. Place the head on a piece of cardboard and taje it in to the machine shop. Try to avoid placing the head on the bottom surface if you can. Read my previous post with tips for the procedure as it will be helpful.
