I agree, there is no chance that car is an SPG. It is badged, it is not lowered, it has NO correct panels. I could understand if you took off the SPG panels for some stupid reason, but no one in their right mind would bother taking off the wheel arches and the front bumper extensions. The turbo bumper extensions have the small 1" lip at the bottom, but the SPG extension looks ten times better, even without the other panels there. I am surprised more Turbo owners don't try that (I know why, since those damn panels are freakin' expensive, but since when has that stopped anyone?!)
The sad thing is that there really is no way to tell for sure if someone has a fake SPG or not. If you know what you are doing, you can figure it out. There was a thread about this a while back (and a lot of folks got it wrong) My brother and I talk about this all the time: the two best ways to tell if it is a stock SPG are: Does it say "Premium Unleaded Fuel Only" by the fuel filler door. This is easily added on to the car, and easily removed if the car gets painted. Not the best way to tell. The only other positive way to check is: Do the springs have gold paint on them? Of course, if someone was trying really hard to make an SPG, then they could figure these things out and make the changes to their car. My brother's "SPG" is NOT an SPG. He made it, and did it right. He put on SPG springs, with the gold paint. He did the panels, and even stepped up to 1998 aero wheels. It is obviously not an SPG, and he's not ashamed to admit it. It can be done, and done correctly.
Of course, philosophers will argue that by taking SPG parts, and making another car to be an SPG, can in fact make a true SPG. I am a sentimental doode, and my feeling is that if the factory wanted an SPG to exist, they built it. I have no problem with others who modify their turbos to LOOK and drive like SPGs. To me, it just is not the same!
SPGs are fantastic cars, and that is why I collect them. No BS SPGs for me!
My 7 cents
