I don’t want to start a religious war here. I am not against Honda fluid, but am for using what has been proven. I live in Ohio and it gets quite cold in the winter here. (mind you not –40, but cold). My experience is a couple of snicks when starting cold, but it is smooth as silk after about 3-5 min. As Kevin points out, Amsoil is a proven entity with superior wear protection to anything else available. (I don’t sell this or anything else). I also stand by my comment that the Honda fluid is an unproven entity. Even if it does give reasonable protection of the ring and pinion, it is living in boxes that may be less marginal in design than our beloved pinion bearings. The way I see it is TomT says that it prolongs gearbox life past 200kmi and has numbers to back this up. Does anyone have this Honda fluid in their box for this long as an example that it works? We all know of the 9k transmission failures with the change to MTL. Playing devil’s advocate, might this be similar? I just don’t feel it is right to steer someone to something experimental. Go to the site and read the comments under major service – transmission oil.
