Simple Oil Question

Ok, I have done one or two oil changes myself already. I have decided to do the changes on both mine and my Saab and my mom's honda myself. I am sick of trying to figure out what oil brand is the best so I've chosen Castrol Synthetic for both cars.
Here is my problem:
#1: Since weather here in MN goes below 20F often during winter months I am thinking of putting 5W30 instead of the original 10W30 in both cars. I am inclined to do this since according to the temperture charts 5W30 protects accross the board from -20F to 100F compared to 10W30 which is 20F to 100F. Are there any disadvantages to putting 5W30 instead of 10W30? I really wanna switch because of 5W30's performance in cold climate. I don't want to screw up because I don't understand why everyone doesn't use 5W30 instead of 10W30.
#2: This might sound like a stupid question but are the labels for synthetic oil the same as the ones for standard oil? What I mean is like do Synth oils come in 10W30 and 5W30, etc.
#3: I am too lazy to go and see the oil prices, although I will be doing that this weekend. Can anyone give me an approximation of how much more Synthetic will cost?
Thanks guys, I am super curious about all this car stuff.
