Get a new six point socket from Sears with a 1/2 inch drive. Also, soak the offending item with KROIL, a super penetrating oil used by the MBTA here in Boston to loosen rusted subway nuts. Finally, I found that a swivel-head ratchet worked best, since I could get the best angle on it. GregD explained most of the above to me when I was trying to get my caliper bolts off.
