One of these days I'll have to grind/bend an open end wrench to fit. But failing that, I have good luck with a small pair of needle-jaw vice-grip pliers. Grab the thin hex head on the top of the check valve with the vice grips and turn the nut on top w/ a socket or box end wrench.
After you get it apart, regardless of what you use to hold the check valve, inspect the top surface of the check valve and file off any burrs that the wrench/pliers may have produced. That will help insure that the fitting seals properly when reassembled. Either get new sealing washers or carefully apply a little oxygen-sensor-safe sealant when you put it back together.
