Fred,
My 85 SPG also leaked water into the passenger side.
One area where the water was coming in was the bolt hole for the knee bolster, repaired by covering the bolt head with some black putty, as it was originally.
The other area was where the 3-hose assembly for the ventilation system passes thru the fire wall under the air conditioning evaporator pan. I temporarily sealed this area with black putty.
In 1986, the 900s came with an additional drain pan with a hose that exits out the wheel well. I have one that I am going to install in my 85 spg. It looks like the evaporator may need to be removed in order to do this installation. I have the motor out, so it should be easy to install this additional drain pan.
Good luck,
Jon
