If the noises noted by the mechanic include a whine when in 3/4/5 above about 30 mph, particularly when under load, then it's probably the pinion bearing. You should be able to hear it too; it's not loud, but is distinctive. If so, the only thing to do to extend the life of your transmission is to STOP DRIVING it. Continued driving can rapidly cause progressively more and more expensive damage until the transmission fails catastrophically. No special oil or additive will do much to prevent the damage.
If you're not getting pinion bearing whine, then drain the transmission oil and check the magnet on the drain plug. Lots of filings means excessive wear in the transmission. A little bit of metal filings is normal wear.
As for the clutch, it sounds like the master cylinder may be getting a bit flakey. Flushing the system may help, but the only real solution is to rebuild/replace the MC. It could also be the slave cylinder. A rebuild kit is less than $20 and a new MC is about $100. If the slave is bad, it's usually economical to replace the clutch at the same time if it's got some miles on it. Also check the hole in the clutch pedal where it attaches to the master cylinder.
Before doing anything, it might be good to get another knowledgable Saab mechanic to look at it.
