Somewhat stunning, the tripod is inplace with circlip. The hardened rollers are in fact boogered and trashed; like wise the ID. I will pull
the wheel tonite to see if the axle nut is still tight. I haven't a clue as to right or wrong axle, but probably will just order a couple of rebuilt assys. for swap out. Any recommended supplier of the ID?
Motor mounts are an interesting possibility. Is there a quick acid test to tell if they are shot? I know the sides have alot of formed steel parts around the rubber, so not much visible to my eyes anyway. Since I have no oil in the trans, not planning to fire it up just yet. Would a floor jack test be applicable? What about L to R?
From what I recall about R&P backlash, you have to fix the pinion & put an indicator on the Ring gear to see what you've got. Any easy way to fix the pinion for this test.
Last, when I drained the box it smelled strongly like gear lube. Since most things I have read herein state that good old 10W30 or else the hi tech synthetics are preferred, can I safely swap this box back or am I stuck with GL? Seems someone here was pontificating about that being a one way street...
Thanks,
