Hello all,

I'm a new saab owner. I recently bought a used 1992 Saab 900 S. (Automatic trans) It has developed a couple problems in the first month. (does it always work this way?)Any help would be VERY much apprieciated, looks like this is a great board for newbie owners to get in touch with the pros.

<Problem 1>: Cold idle problem. This has been a developing problem. Currently, it dies immediately when started in the morning, without stabbing the gas before it dies to keep it running. You have to do this multiple times before it evens out, and will idle fine after about 5 minutes.

It used to idle up and down when I would start it cold. RPM would go down to around 300? (Almost die) And then rev itself up to about 1000? And do this for around 3 minutes. Then it would idle fine. Hopefully, this is a clue as to what the problem is?

<Problem 2>: Reverse? Developing problem. Car does not want to engage reverse. Auto trans. When I go from park to reverse, I have got it to work by stabbing the gas a little bit, but don't like to do that. Reverse seems to be slipping? Also, it is a little slow on changing gears from 3rd to 4th while on the highway. It seems to shift up when I let off the gas in 3rd, then it goes to 4th. Hopefully this is an indicator of what's wrong?

Hopefully the transmission is not shot. We paid 5k even for the car. 100k on it. Great condition.

My Kindest Regards,

David Copeland
