The noise is of course caused by your bad CVjoint, which resulted from several months of the torn boot, which allowed dirt to foul the joint and the grease to leak out. Once it clicks, you're cooked. You are now at risk for an total failure, which will leave the car undrivable. You could drive for months like this or it could go next week. Put a new joint and boot on now. A boot alone will only perfume the pig.
By the way, this has nothing to do with your wheel bearing, which is inside the hub and can fail very nicely on its own, without any help from the CVjoint..
