Found! Old Dwell/Tach Meter-Vac Guage, Timing Light-How to Use?

I found an old tune up kit with a VU "Dwell-Tach" meter in my basement recently. It has two leads, red and black with clamps at each end and I can't for the life of me remember what they were clamped to in order to obtain a RPM reading. Anybody recall?
This kit also contained a vacuum meter, with readings in degrees of Mercury. It has a two-foot rubber hose with a beveled plastic nozzle, I guess to insert in different vacuum hoses to obtain a reading. Any idea how I would utilize this little gem?.
There was also a light gun to set your dwell as well as a compression reading device. This was not a high-end tune up kit but it thought it might be useful in working on my Saab.
