I'd never seen one before, but there it was in the scrap yard, in a 1980 900 no less! So now I have a smooth dash and I'll do my best to keep it that way. I'm guessing the car hadn't seen much sunlight. Or the owner kept it well covered. Or it was a recent replacement.
The Swedish Auto Specialties catalog has a dash cover made of plastic that fits right over the existing one. Appearantly it looks just like the original. I'd have bought that had I not found this new dash. I'll probably have to buy it anyway in a few months.
