I painted a beater 99 several years ago, and it was "OK" but not great, but no runs! I changed the color from puke orange to royal blue with a white stripe, and actually it looked much better than the car ever had. The problem was, I used Rust Oleum, 3 coats, 25 cans, but the stuff loses its gloss after a few days of drying, so it did not look too hot, but from 50 feet it was not bad, and it stopped most of the rust. I'd try it, perhaps having some cans mixed to match the existing color. One fellow who writes for a Brit car mag did a whole Triumph front end and wrote it up, and it looked pretty fair, but at least a lot better. Remember, Land Rovers are brush painted.... and why does a $200 Saab have to have a $1000 paint job to be servicable? I have a $100 86 900s that I may do some work on like this too. Good luck!
