I own a 1989 Saab 900 Turbo Convertible (standard transmission).
It has 160K miles on it and recently both front lower control arms failed although not at the same time. Fortunately, both failures occurred as I was pulling out of the garage and not at highway speed.
I've owned a lot of high mileage cars and I've NEVER had nor heard of a control arm failing. If the
control arms failed at highway speeds I'm sure the result would have been a serious accident.
I have perused bulletin boards and discovered that this is a common occurrence for Saab 900's. I believe this is a safety issue and merits formal review by a safety board.
One of mine broke at the Weld, but on the other the steel shaft itself broke.
