When AMMs go bad Posted by Ari [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: AMM work then malfunction so on and so on??????, CN, Mon, 13 Aug 2001 21:57:41 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There can be a few AMM malfunctions. If a connector is dirty, you could have intermittent operation. Most AMM malfunctions come from corrosion on the circuit board, so as they die, it'll have good days and bad days, depending on humidity.
But the trickiest part is that the AMM is part of a control system that can adapt to problems. For example, the AMM has the greatest control of fuel flow when the engine is cold and the O2 sensor isn't warm yet. Depending on how the AMM is doing, sometimes the engine control can work around it, sometimes it can't.
The usual sign of a bad AMM is hesistation coming off idle - you press the gas to move away from a light, and the engine seems to be ignoring you - press the gas and all it does is bog. If you press the pedal at least 3/4 way down, the engine suddenly springs to life and off you go. Idle will suck when cold, but be better when warm.
What are the symptoms?
